BIA urges governor to opt in to FirstNet

The Business and Industry Association, New Hampshire’s statewide chamber of commerce, is asking Governor Sununu to reject a committee recommendation to bow out of a program designed to ensure first responders have a secure communications platform in a national or regional emergency.

In a letter hand-delivered to the governor this afternoon, BIA is urging New Hampshire stay in the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet). The public/private partnership between the federal government and AT&T is providing states $6.5 billion and dedicated radio spectrum space for emergency use. In September, a committee recommended to the governor that New Hampshire opt-out of FirstNet and build its own statewide network with a startup company located in Ireland.
